International Duke of Edinburgh Award

Written by admin. Posted in FrontpageNews

DofESome of our year 12 students have been practising their camp craft skills in preparation for the expedition aspect of the International Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

The two day over-night camp included educating the students on how to select a location to camp, how to pitch their tents, planning a journey and how to efficiently pack everything you need for your expedition. The Victoria Fire Service joined us to deliver training on fire safety & building and cooking on a camp fire.

After a reasonable night’s sleep and a very early start, the students completed a 5 hour hike that commenced at school and took them to the top of the Capolia Trail and return.

All students successfully completed the exhausting experience and are now looking forward to the ‘assessed expedition’ which is planned for July.

IMG_1451This week the children in Reception 2 have been learning about teddy bears’ as an introduction to our terms topic ‘Bears!’ We hosted a ‘bring your teddy bear to school’ week to learn about and encourage responsibility and ownership. Throughout the week we have created some fantastic pieces of literacy about our teddy bears and what they have been up to in school. To finish off the week we went on a teddy bear’s picnic! There was fun, games, face painting, storytelling and much, much more!

Everybody had so much fun!
