Australian Maths Competition

Written by admin. Posted in FrontpageNews

On Friday 9th February in our junior assembly, we were delighted to present a number of students with certificates for their hard work and determination when participating in the annual Australian Maths Competition. The competition is extremely tough and all participants have made the school thoroughly proud through their efforts. As a school, ISS continues to do well in this event with some children achieving the highest award which is ‘Prize.’ Our thanks also goes to Ms. Laporte and Ms. Rumbi for taking the time and effort to organise such a successful event.

Well done to everyone!

On Wednesday 7th February 50 students from years 11 and 13 received their certificates for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award they took part in last year. One part of the award involves the students devoting huge chunks of their time providing a service to their community, learning a new skill and also taking part in a physical activity of their choice. The second part of the award involves the students planning and undertaking a 2 day expedition. During this section they learnt bush-craft, orienteering and map reading skills as they were required to hike for 2 whole days with an overnight stop in between. It was a fantastic to celebrate the remarkable achievement of such a large amount of ISS students who all showed an incredible level of commitment to earn the award. Many thanks to the Principal Secretary and the Duke of Edinburgh award office staff for their support on the day and to our Head Boy, Rahul Rai for delivering a vote of thanks.

RUNWAY SUCCESS

Class 2 checked in for their annual adventure at Seychelles International Airport last week. Warmly welcomed by the fire crew of the Airport Emergency Services, the class learned all about the safety procedures at the ‘air-side’ of the airport and what needs to be done in the event of an accident. A large Air Seychelles passenger jet landed during the visit and there was a steady coming and going of Air Seychelles domestic flights to Praslin. The tours culminated in realistic non emergency sprints down the runway with the excited pupils aboard hi-tec tenders and witnessed spectacular demonstrations of the power of the water cannons.
Many thanks to all the people who help us in this case the brave firefighters at Pointe la Rue.
