2019 International Hat Parade

Written by admin. Posted in FrontpageNews

It was definitely a case of hats off to the children, teachers and TA’s of the ISS Early Childhood department this morning, as eight classes sang and dance their way across the whole of the world. A sizable audience of proud parents, family friends and children from the Junior section were treated to a range of music and costumes from countries as far away as Hawaii, France, the USA, Brazil, the UK, Egypt and Zambia, with Miss Vivienne’s Reception 1 class ensuring that we all paid tribute to the amazing country in which we live by dancing a traditional Seychelles Sega. Thanks to everyone who attended, and in particular to the amazing performers – the children! They were absolutely fabulous 😉

The yr7 students were surprised to learn that robots are already being used here in the Seychelles. Mr Scales, computer science teacher, added he thought it will be a long time before robots replace teachers in the classroom.

Year 6 Record-Breakers!

The Year 6 residential visit to Praslin claimed a record this morning as all 48 children and 7 teachers managed to travel on the Cat Cocos ferry without anyone needing the dreaded plastic bag! Strong stomachs indeed – and crossed fingers that the return journey on Friday proves to be equally calm and tranquil.

The children were full of excitement and enthusiasm for the days ahead when they will visit La Digue and Aride in addition to enjoying activities on Praslin Island itself. As you can see from the photos, the children were raring to go and even the prospect of an early start didn’t dim their smiles.

Animals in School – Tortoises, Guinea pigs and Kittens

Written by admin. Posted in FrontpageNews

Reptiles and mammals visited ISS this term. The hutch hosted multi-coloured friendly guinea pigs from Naima, Maybelle the tortoise from Mr Edd and Georgie and kittens from the SSPCA. All the classes in EC were introduced to the temporary guests and the students were taught how to care for their pets. They talked about cleaning out the cage as well as feeding, exercising and providing water and shelter for their animals. Everyone enjoyed the visitors and we look forward to some more surprise guests in April!
