Fantastic Sports at the Stadium!

The children from ISS Juniors enjoyed a wonderful morning of sport last Thursday when they competed in a variety of skills-based activities and events as part of their annual Sports Day competition at the Stade Populaire in Victoria.

Every student participated across five different disciplines and earned performance points that contributed towards an overall total for their House. It was a hard-fought affair, but in the end the spoils went to Desroches (Yellow House) who were awarded the coveted winners cup at the end of the morning.

Part way through the morning the Juniors were joined by children from Year 1 and Year 2 who, for the first time, were able to get a taste for competing in a ‘real’ stadium and thoroughly enjoyed their egg and spoon races , sprints, bean bag throwing and relays. It was wonderful to see our littlest sportspeople having such a great time and being able to show off their skills to the many mums and dads who came to watch and support.

Many thanks to everyone who played a part in making this event such a success – as can be seen from both the photos and video, it was a wonderful experience for all concerned!

“Gong Xi Fa Cai” from ISS Primary

The boys and girls from Reception 1 up to Year 6 had a lovely day today finding out about Chinese New Year celebrations and learning a little bit of Mandarin and Cantonese along the way. We were awash in a sea of red – which is a colour that symbolises prosperity – and the efforts that the children made to come dressed in colours or outfits that complimented the activities in the classroom are to be applauded. As you can see from the photos we all looked absolutely fabulous!

World Wetland Day February 2nd 2019

Students in ISS from the Primary Wildlife clubs took part in a clean- up of our local wetland area. The old gate was opened to reveal some very amazing mangrove plants and trees where we collected manglier rouz seeds to replant in our nurseries. The eco warriors collected 4 bags of rubbish from the area and we are sure that the many animals and birds in this habitat will appreciate our efforts. We were then proud to plant out into the mangrove some of our red mangrove seedlings which are grown in the nursery in recycled water containers, as well as in the mangrove swamp in specially designed trays packed with mud and seeds. Both methods have proved to be successful and further planting should restore our local mangrove area. Work has commenced already on our mangrove platform so do please come and visit the garden area and explore a little. So far so good!
