Mangrove planting
Students from Year 6 and Year 5 participated in more mangrove planting on July 6th. The school mangrove nursery has plants stored in containers both on land and in the wetland area which were ready to plant. We decided to wait till a low tide and students braved the mud to relocate about 30 plants in front of the mangrove platform. We also planted new seedlings in large fruit trays packed together in soil to prevent crabs from damaging the young plants. We hope that the new mangroves will grow tall and strong and help to protect our school grounds and provide a safe habitat for the birds, fish and reptiles in the wetland. Thanks to the students who volunteered to help.
